Earlier this fall, we discovered that Isla loved being in the pool. Sporting her Honest. Co pineapple swim diaper and Babyiators, she put on her best sassy pout and worked the water like a champ. Sasha and I had a great time playing with her, but kept getting splashed as she flailed around with her arms and legs, dying to explore the waters on her own.
Enter the otteroo. This baby floatation device goes around Isla’s neck and provides support to keep her afloat without being held. At first, she seemed a little confused (but not upset) by the otteroo (‘What is this contraption you’ve put around my neck?‘). However, after she started moving around in the water by her self, she was sold.
We did a family swim date recently at Life Time Fitness, and I’m not sure who enjoyed the otteroo more – Isla or me and Sasha. We loved playing with her in the water without having to hold her and make sure we kept her head above the water.
There are a lot of different developmental benefits to the otteroo, but the one I’m most convinced of is that baby’s need to explore is satisfied. You could tell Isla loved getting to move around the pool on her own, especially in the shallow entrance where she was ‘walking’ along the bottom. She’s one curious little lady now, so this pool playtime is perfect for her.
If you need further convincing about the otteroo being a necessity in your household, watch this cute video. I genuinely love using it so much that I included it in on Baby Essentials blog post.
I’m excited to offer my followers 30% off on orders of the otteroo baby floatie with promo code 30ISLA2014 (valid through Dec. 31, 2014). The floaties are currently backordered until 2015 (yes, they’re that popular!), but you can pre-order them with the code now in order to secure the discount.
Happy floating!
otteroo partnered with me on this post. As part of the sponsorship, I received a free floatie. While I was allowed to keep the product, all opinions expressed are my own.

My baby girl will need one!! Cannot wait for pool fun with her in the summer. Cute pics!
Yes!! Oh gosh, babies love the pool. It’s so fun! Excited for you.
Ok, I initially thought this was REALLY weird, but I get it – it’s cool. Isla is so adorable. Love these pics.
It does look weird! Not all babies are Olympians like Simon right out of the gate! There are so many things I need him to teach Isla. Sigh. Move. Please.
I might look a little weird but Isla loves it!
I agree! She does!
I need to buy one for my nephew who was just born! Love this idea.
He would love it! I promise!
Isla looks so cute! I wish I had known about this when my kids were younger!
I wish you had too! Thank you so much, Shelly!
Oh my gosh. The otteroo looks so funny, but I love the idea. And I like that Isla enjoys it. I may need to order one for Jane.
Yes! Jane would love it! Such a fun pool accessory!
What a great idea! Isla looks adorable!
