Two whole years have gone by since Little Miss Isla was born. Part of me feels like it was ages ago, and then I have moments where it feels like I was in labor just yesterday. I had to re-read her birth story (here) to remember details I thought I would never forget. And then what feels like yesterday, we celebrated her first birthday (party and first birthday post). Looking back at the photos, she looks so little!
We had a tea party for her second birthday celebration, and held it at our house. Much to my dismay, it was pouring rain outside, so we had to cancel the moonwalk last minute as well as a few other outdoor games. Despite the bad weather, the party went off without a hitch (eh, except don’t put a sparkler on a 2 year old’s cupcake!), and Isla had a great time mingling with friends and family. I’m sharing more photos below, as well as sourcing for most of the goods. If I missed something, please leave me a comment and I’ll let you know where I got it!
A little two year update:
Isla’s favorite animals are flamingos, bubas (Serbian for bugs), dogs (especially Belle), and elephants. She loves to make all animal noises and now thinks she’s an expert at naming them as well. Every night, we read 4-5 books, then sing Twinkle, Twinkle, Kumbaya, and Itsy Bitsy Spider. We try to vary the books as often as possible, but Each Peach Pear Plum, A Squash and a Squeeze, I Love You Through and Through, My First Read and Learn Bible, Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?, Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Room on the Broom, 1, 2, 3, Peas, Toot and One Ted Falls out of Bed are some of the ones she picks out the most.
She is very independent and wants to make all decisions herself (very tiring!). We can no longer put a hair tie in her hair without asking her to pick the color of the band. It was once cute and is now rather exhausting! Ha. If she had her way, she would wear her pink Hunter rain boots every single day of the week. She loves them.
Her favorite foods include pasta, quinoa, oatmeal, strawberries, Greek yogurt (referred to as ‘ice cream’), cereal, pizza (Flatzzas with Alfredo sauce), broccoli, bananas, hummus, popcorn and all Annie’s snacks.
Her vocabulary seems to grow leaps and bounds every day, and she is a legit parrot (learning the hard way to watch what I say!). She can now sing the alphabet, but H-I-J-K is rather incoherent. She loves to sing Happy Birthday as well, regardless if it’s anyones birthday or not. She counts to 14, but doesn’t have a strong interest to get any higher than that! She is obsessed with colors and spends her entire day pointing them out to you (“Mama, pink pen!”, “Dada, blue cup please”, “Aww, black dog!”, “Look, red car!”). Some of her favorite words and phrases are: “More cereal please”, “Three more wipes” (she is obsessed with wiping things), “Birthday to you!”, “Awww, baby’s sad!”, “I give up!” (when being tickled), “Mummy hug!!!”, “No go night-night!”, “We go pool”, and “Oh Belley Bear!”.
We converted her crib to a big girl bed on her birthday (Saturday), and she is loving it so far. I need to install a baby gate by her door though, because the last two mornings, she has appeared suddenly by my bedside and scared me half to death!
Temper tantrums are not frequent, but they are extreme when they happen! The pediatrician said they normally become more frequent after they turn two, so we’ll see what’s in store for us. I pray every day that she stays sweet 🙂 As she communicates more and more, I see her frustration levels go down, so hopefully that helps a bit. We have had many, many potty training discussions and a few accidents on the floor, but not much luck getting her to go to the bathroom on her little toilet. Praying we have better luck with that soon!
Overall, we are still so smitten with Isla and are grateful for her kind (yet sassy) soul. Sasha asks me almost daily if I think we’ll be able to love another baby as much as her (I tell him yes, of course!), but it does seem crazy that it would be possible!
We’re excited to see what this next year has in store for our Isla girl.
Now for some party pics! A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make my vision come to life (listed below!).

Wow, everything looks so perfect. Out of a magazine! You are so talented, I loved the photos! And a big happy birthday to your sweet baby girl! She keeps getting cuter every day. Love her so much even though I hardly know her… Much love and kisses from The Pina’s.
Seriously gorgeous party! That wall, tho. Swooning. Kennedy had a tea party birthday for her 2nd, as well, but I can tell you we had no wall like that. All the heart eye emojis. Hope you’re doing well, friend. Miss you!
I LOVE this party!! So so adorable!
