Cake & Confetti Colorful Kid’s Christmas Party

A few weeks ago, Meredith of Cake & Confetti planned the most ahhhdorable Christmas party that Isla was invited to attend (may have helped that I was photographing it, ha!). I am obsessed with every bright, pretty detail – she is definitely the best of the best when it comes to party planning (and overall, in life). Esther & Jenny’s girls are the other two adorable little party goers! Their cuteheads dresses are to-die for!!

You can find all of the details and a ton of fun photos on her blog here. We took these at Nancy Aidee’s new studio – it’s AMAZING! Thank you, Nancy, for letting us shoot there!

Emi at 10 Months

I was checking out at a cute gift store today, and the cashier asked how old Emilia was. I told her, “Ten months today, actually!” And she replied, “My son was ten months just yesterday… and now he’s almost a college graduate.” For some reason, this almost made me cry! Trying not to focus on the time-flying aspect of Emi’s first year, and more on the positive: how much more fun our life is with Miss Bemi Bootie in it.

First, let me review all of the names she has accumulated over the first year. Emilia is most often called Emi. Also referred to as The Goose (Sasha’s favorite), Bemi Bootie (my favorite), Emerson Bo Bemerson (Isla’s favorite), Emi Emi 2×4, Squashers (Sasha’s second favorite), Squash & Squeeze.

People tell me all of the time that she looks a lot like Isla, but also very different. I have moments of thinking the same. Emi has many different expressions (most I find cute, but she makes this disgusted, scrunchy nose face that makes me laugh…) – some of them are identical to Isla’s as a baby! I cannot wait to see who she looks like when she’s older!

If you want to make Emi laugh, you could a) Hang her upside down or flip her over on the bed, b) Turn on JT’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” and let her bop up and down to the beat, c) Animatedly read her favorite book, “Goodnight, I love you,” d) Nuzzle your face into her stomach and blow on it, e) Let her splash you in the bath… a lot. Lots of other things do the trick too, but these are my go-tos.

Miss Emilia looks very Scottish with her pale skin and strawberry blonde (read: red) hair, but her favorite food is Serbian vegetable soup called chorba. She freaks out when she eats it. She also loves broccoli as a close second, Silk yogurts, stewed apples, puffs (well balanced diet!), hummus and beans.

Emi’s new favorite habits are making the loudest noise by covering and uncovering her mouth with her hand, sticking her tongue out and spitting (very lady-like), scaling rooms by walking with her hands on the wall, clapping (especially to “If you’re happy and you know it…”), waving bye-bye by opening and closing her hand, saying, “BEH!!! BEH!” when Belle comes into the room (exactly how Isla used to say it) and Dada to Sasha. Mama is still very hit or miss (thanks, kiddos, for this!), but Sasha’s mom thinks she’s got Baba down pat! Ha.

I’m documenting this in writing: If we have another child, they will not have a ‘set’ monthly photo because come 10 months, these are so difficult. Emi is pinned from flipping over and crawling away with my foot in the photo below and my hand in another. It’s so tough for active little ones, but I’ve got to finish what I’ve started! Cannot believe I only have two more months of it.

Week in Review

I absolutely cannot wrap my head around the fact that we’ll be in the month of December on Friday. This Friday. And that means 2018 is literally right around the corner. Ah! I’m not ready. The past holiday week was so much fun. We spent lots of time with family – both my side and Sasha’s too. I love Thanksgiving! I also need to go on a juice cleanse that lasts three weeks, but thats another story.

Some of the highlights from the past week include:

  • Celebrating Thanksgiving with my family on Wednesday – a day early since my little sister is in her residency and didn’t have Thursday off! My mom made Indian food and it was delicious. We ended the evening with a game of Monikers – it’s our favorite.
  • Doing a 6 mile run at Memorial Park with Sasha, Isla and Emi on Thursday morning then celebrating Thanksgiving at Sasha’s Aunt Zlata’s house with his whole family and my parents came too!
  • Eating at El Tiempo on Saturday night with all of Sasha’s cousins. It’s an annual tradition to go out after Thanksgiving and we had so. much. fun. Maybe even a little too much fun? But the diaper dance at Concrete Cowboy is now going to be a tradition for sure.
  • Celebrating Serbian ‘Slava’ at Sasha’s mom and stepdad’s house on Tuesday. They always make the most amazing food. I left absolutely stuffed (reiterating the need for a juice cleanse!).
  • Eating dinner with my Dad on Sunday at our house while Mum went to a play with a friend!
  • Taking family photos, pictures for Meredith, Milly’s 7 month photos, Will and Lesley’s engagement photos, blueberry swaddle photos for Sarah of By George Baby Boutique, and Carrie’s daughter’s 5 month photos! Lots of editing (and I’m still going!!).
  • Visiting the new house many times – more details to come on our design process soon!
  • Spending quality time with McKenzie while she was in town!
  • Catching up with one of my dearest friends, Andrew, and his girlfriend, Lisa, while he was in town for the holiday. Andrew and I were close friends in high school then spent a whole summer together in Paris – I wish I got to see him more often!

I hope your break was wonderful. Are you counting down to Christmas or wishing 2017 would never end? xo

Jill & Kevin’s Save-the-Dates from Minted

Last month, I took my younger sister’s engagement photos. Kevin and I drove to Galveston together, as Jill was already halfway there getting her hair and makeup done by Sunkissed & Made Up. We shot a few photos in Beachtown, then headed to Pleasure Pier, where we took more, before heading back to Beachtown.  All in all, I am so happy with how they turned out, and more importantly, Jill and Kevin are too (or at least, that’s what they’re saying, ha!).

We searched for the perfect save-the-date and found This is Happening by designer Eric Clegg on Minted. I love how it looks with the beach scene. We put a few simple words on the back, sharing the location and directing them to their website (which Kevin designed and is amazing). As the perfect finishing touch, we ordered the custom stamps, which allowed us to share another photo we loved. My talented mom did the calligraphy on the envelopes. Jill came over on Wednesday and told me that people were already complimenting her on the save-the-dates!

Time is flying by, so we’re now thinking about the invitations! Bring on all of the beautiful Minted suites.

And now, prepare for photo overload!

Will & Lesley’s Engagement Photos

As I mentioned last week, I am going to start sharing more of my photo sessions on the blog – I’ll do a roundup of my favorite family photos at the end of the ‘season,’ since there are a lot of those! On Monday, I took Will and Lesley’s engagement photos at the eastern-most parts of North and South Boulevards in Boulevard Oaks. They live nearby, and Will proposed to Lesley while on a walk down North Boulevard. It only made sense to take these photos there!

It won’t take you but 0.3 seconds to see why I’m dying to share these. Will and Lesley both look like models (for real!), and they were naturals in front of the camera (despite warning me otherwise). Will came to the rescue with tape for Lesley’s dress and an emergency blanket, which worked out perfectly. I love these two together, and I love their photos as well! I apologize for my inability to narrow down favorites to a reasonable number. Ha.
