Healthy Antioxidant Salad Recipe

Vegetarian Antioxidant Salad Salata Healthy Low Calories

It definitely feels like spring here in Houston, and I am so excited to start adding our family favorite Summer Salad back into the dinner rotation. I will definitely miss the Brussels sprouts and root vegetables of fall harvest salads, but having colorful fruit, feta and light dressings on my greens makes me ever happier.

I’m including the ingredients that we use to make our favorite salad below. All of these nutritious items are packed with antioxidants, which are molecules used by your body to fight against disease causing radicals. Studies show that people who eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables have fewer diseases, so they’re on our plates at both lunch and dinner (except Isla’s, because she is currently a carbarian).

I will either buy these ingredients when I’m at the grocery store, or get this salad (typically to-go) from Salata, because it is just so easy. Per the Salata portions, the salad has 345 calories (including feta, excluding a dressing) – and it’s huge!

Week in Review

Last week was a tough week for the Petrovics, but we were so grateful for Easter weekend, as it is nearly impossible not to feel joyous on this holiday. We spent Saturday at my parent’s house, as they were driving to Colorado on Sunday. On Easter, we went to the sunrise church service at Bayou City Fellowship, then had brunch at Adair Kitchen (my favorite!) and spent the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying family time. A perfect weekend!

  • Celebrating my sweet friend, Danay, at her bridal shower in Katy on Saturday. She is going to be such a gorgeous bride and we’re excited for their wedding next month outside of Austin.
  • Spending time with my best friend (since 4th grade!) who recently moved to Chicago (sob) and was in town for Easter – we ate CPK, played with Isla, drank champagne and caught up. I miss living with her!
  • Getting a gel mani done by my sweet friend, Meredith – she definitely knows how to cheer a gal up (Dish Society, bubbly, and girl talk!).
  • Celebrating Easter with a few girlfriends at our friend, Brittany’s house! She is the best hostess! Everything was so beautiful.
  • Taking blog photos for CarolineMollyMegan and Alex!
  • Photographing an event for Uncork at Spindletap Brewery.
  • Going on a double date to Himalaya and then heading to Dave & Busters afterwards – Sasha is so darn competitive with his basketball games and I’ve lost my touch with Dance Dance Revolution! Ha.
  • Taking newborn photos for sweet baby Andrew and 4 month photos for baby Bianca! I love photographing little ones!
  • Stopping briefly by The Monogram Shop for a quick hug from Leah and to get one of the items for my sister-in-law’s bachelorette party – I am so excited for the party and the welcome bags! Ha. I’m crazy.

How was your week? I hope you had a great Easter.

Week in Review

Apparently Sunday was the first day of Spring, but it is freezing here in Houston (in the 40s!), so tough to think of it that way. The flowers are blooming though, and everything looks gorgeous. Isla has a 103 fever and I’m not feeling great, so it’ll be a slow day (or days) for us at the Petrovic house. Sweet girl is finally getting her fourth canine – each came in about two and a half weeks after the other. What a pain! I’m thinking that the fever might be related to that. Looking forward to the warmth and good feelings again soon.

Some highlights from the past week include:

  • Taking blog photos for MollyCaroline and Elly at Highland Village (on different days!).
  • Photographing Destiny at CityCentre, then having lunch afterwards at Ruggles Green with sweet Truman – I wish I had brought Isla! She loves “TRUMEE!”
  • Going to Courtney’s house in Montgomery for a playdate – we had so much fun on a buggy ride, swinging, playing with chickens and looking at their gorgeous house! I am lusting after her incredible office space.
  • Getting a gorgeous mountain painting in the mail from Chelsea Hart – seriously love it!
  • Having lunch at my parent’s house in Katy, and then celebrating Brooks’ first year (while Isla slept through the whole thing!).
  • Going to church at Bayou City Fellowship, then meeting friends for lunch at Ruggles Green – followed by a quiet Sunday afternoon.
  • Having Isla sport a new Willow Crowns floral headband (for sale tomorrow!) + trying our new Boon SNUG lid + straw – two new favorites 🙂
  • Spending many hours playing with Isla’s new Pottery Barn Kids kitchen set, which we ordered for Christmas and therefore are considering it a Christmas and birthday gift, since it arrived almost halfway!
  • Stopping by The Monogram Shop to chat with Leah and order some gifts for a bachelorette party I’m helping to plan! I am so excited to fill the welcome bags!’

Hope you had a great week. xo

Week in Review

Oh Daylight Savings! How much fun is that? 😉 Sunday was very slow moving with us all operating on an hour less sleep, but overall, the whole weekend was one of our most relaxed in months. Therefore, I have no complaints at all! After a very hectic week, it was much needed. Sasha was in California again for work, so I was a one-man show, fortunately with help from family! I mentioned this last week, but seriously – single moms are heroes.

Some highlights from the week include:

  • Going to my first spin class at RYDE with some of the other bloggers in the #boxwoodsbreakfastclub – it was such a good class! I absolutely loved it.
  • Getting a fresh chop and a tiny bit of summery color with Eric Vaughn, then running across town for the cuteheads x The Monogram Shop Easter shoot (those kids though!).
  • Photographing Esther and gorgeous baby Tova for a collaboration with Solly Baby.
  • Taking blog photos for Caroline at BLVD Place, Destiny at CityCentre and Alex at our house! Isla borrowed Alex’s Henri Bendel purse and was strutting her stuff – we were cracking up.
  • Enjoying a few postponed shoots due to the rain and getting to sip coffee with Meredith at the house while Isla entertained us with Snapchat filters!
  • Going to the Rising Tide Society meeting at Fill in the Blank Studios – it was about taxes, and I actually learned a ton!
  • Attending the Macy’s event that Destiny was co-hosting with Emily and Alice – it was so fun and I got to see some other sweet blogger girls.
  • Finally getting to eat dinner at Coltivare – it is so busy!!! We got there 20 minutes after it opened, and there was an hour wait, so we sat at the chef’s table. It wasn’t the best, but we had a great time and the food was delicious!
  • Running into Elly at the gym on Saturday morning – she looked like a total doll, and I was wearing bleach trays in public #embarrassing!!
  • Taking a trip to Walgreens with Isla, with her refusing to get dressed… so that was interesting (she did have a diaper on though)! She got a lot of comments. Ha! Mom of the year right here.
  • Shooting cuteheads‘ new collection – it is so cute, and I cannot wait for you to see it all! Some sneak peeks below.
  • Taking sweet Blakely’s newborn photos! She was such a doll.

Hope you had a wonderful week too and are catching up on some sleep!

Calligraphy & Floral Arranging Workshop at Renovate – More Coming Soon!

Ailee_Petrovic_160226_L86A2462Two Thursdays ago (where has time gone?!?), I attended a calligraphy and floral arranging workshop at Renovate, a local design, decor, and gift store (which you have to go and visit). The calligraphy portion was taught by the talented Emily Reeves; the floral arranging, by the equally amazing Kristin of The Briar Rose. I had a great time, and although it was my third calligraphy class, I learned so much. It’s amazing how each calligrapher has so many tips of their own! And Kristin’s arrangements are gorgeous (sign me up for a subscription, please!) – she walked us through the basics of forming arrangements (plus, we got that gorgeous box vase!).

I was using Snapchat throughout the evening (AileePetrovic), and I received a lot of questions about whether or not they’ll host another workshop. Thankfully, there are others soon – on Saturday, April 28 and Saturday, April 30 from 10:30am until 1pm. You can sign up here! I highly recommend taking the class!
