As I mentioned here, our house is already decked out in Christmas decor, which makes me one happy lady (I cannot wait to share photos on Monday!). I go totally crazy at the holidays – I embrace Christmas festivity with open arms. I have begun playing carols, and one night while listening to one of my favorite Christmas albums (um, Glee… don’t judge me!), I decided to make some carol prints for our house.
Dream Playrooms
The dream home series continues! This week, I’m sharing dream playrooms (see previously posted dream kitchen, master bedroom, and living room). I seriously dislike bright colors, which is why Isla’s nursery is decorated with such neutral, cool colors. I feel similarly about the style of a playroom, but I know that kids like bright colors, so I may have to get over this disdain at some point in life.
I’ve put together a collection of my favorite playrooms – some which I would copy exactly and others which have elements I like. See my inspiration below!
My Favorite Artists
I absolutely love art, and I was so excited when Sasha and I finally agreed upon a Teil Duncan Bull painting recently (see here), which my aunts kindly bought for us. I Sasha that he likes Renoir-style paintings, which couldn’t be further from my taste. I love modern art. Not the minimalistic white canvas style, but bright, bold colors and interesting shapes. I have been bookmarking some of my favorites for ages, and hope to slowly win Sasha over to more and more paintings by Teil, Lulie, Britt, etc. I’ve put together some of my favorites below!
I am dying to know of other artists with similar styles. Do you know of any? Aren’t these six ladies exceptionally talented?
Update: Glitter Guide posted 12 Artists You Need to Know – amazing round up!
Dream Kitchens
I recently posted about my dream living rooms and have since moved onto kitchens. The next house we move into will likely be a tear-down and rebuild, as we are constantly looking for old homes in our neighborhood to buy and renovate (similar to what we did with our current house). I love the idea of having a blank canvas to work with, especially for the kitchen, as this is the room we spend most time in at home. I love white kitchens, with white cabinets and white countertops. Until recently, I’ve lusted for Carrera marble countertops, but my mom told me that people have issues with stains, as the marble soaks up liquids (especially wine). My parents opted for Taj Mahal countertops, as they are almost as white but do not absorb liquids. I also love the idea of a rustic wooden island in the kitchen with all white cabinets. We currently have white tiles in our kitchen, and it’s the first thing in the house I would change, as I constantly have to wash them.
I’m sharing a few of my inspirations below! Do you have a favorite style of kitchen?

Dream Living Rooms
Perhaps because Isla’s nursery is complete, I am super itchy to redo our living room. I have been scouring the internet for inspiration… probably much to Sasha’s dismay! We’ve only been in our house for a year, but there are many things I would like to change. In a few years, we plan to do a custom build, and I want to have every single room mapped out before we design anything. The living room is where we spend most time (second to the kitchen, which might be surpassed by Isla’s nursery right now!), so that would be where I focused most of my attention. I also want to build a toy room, as I am a freak about baby ‘stuff’ cluttering up the house. Our good friends are turning their office into a nursery – super jealous (although I love our study!!). Some of my favorite living rooms are posted below – including my sister’s newly renovated home. What do you think? Are these your style? Sasha finds it a tad girly, but he’s generally okay with letting me make design decisions (not so much with art!).
PS We are headed to Durango today! So excited for this new chapter in our lives.
