Destiny’s Baby Sprinkle

Baby Sprinkle Girl Creative Shower Real Sprinkles Invitation on Snapshots and My Thoughts by Ailee PetrovicYesterday, I threw one of my best friends, Destiny, a baby sprinkle to celebrate the impending arrival of her sweet baby girl (and also her 25th birthday!). The shower was at Sweet Paris’ CityCentre location, and despite the weather outside being frightful, the atmosphere inside was seriously delightful (ode to one of my favorite Christmas carols). Destiny’s mom flew in from Las Vegas for the shower, and it was so nice getting to celebrate with Baby Thompson’s Nana there too!

We ate crêpes, decorated cupcakes, guessed Baby T’s arrival date, took photos in front of the sprinkle backdrop, watched as Destiny opened one adorable baby item after another, and had wonderful conversations amongst old and new friends. I love baby showers!

Destiny and I met last summer and quickly became good friends. We both have 2.5 year olds, Truman and Isla, who are also best friends, and I love seeing them together, as Isla always lights up when she sees her pal. Destiny is one of the most sweet, considerate, and thoughtful people I’ve ever met, and we wanted to show her how loved and appreciated she is. The group of ladies  at the shower definitely filled the room up!

There were a lot of talented ladies who helped me pull off the sprinkle, and I’ll start with the invitations, which were created by Papellerie (the same gals who did our wedding suite and Isla’s birthday invitations). I am thrilled with how they turned out – they have sprinkles in them (see video on my Instagram here).

The gorgeous wedding cake was made by Lisa of Maple & Love, whom gave me all of our incredible travel suggestions when we went to Melbourne. It was a lemon and strawberry cake, and although I don’t eat eggs, I did totally get a bite of the icing – glad I did!

My Cricut got a good workout, as I used it to create the bottle shapes for the Eos party favors, the ‘Guess Baby Thompson’s Birth Date’ activity and the vinyl shapes for the mylar balloons. I left the heavy duty laser cutting to Monica of Paper Flour Ink, who made wooden boards reading Oh Baby Girl that she covered in sprinkle paper. She is the best!

At a recent party I co-hosted, one of the other gals suggested we order thank you cards and pre-address/stamp the envelopes to help the mama-to-be, and I thought this was such a great idea, so I ordered pretty pink and gold thank you cards from Tiny Prints. I also ordered customized mug from Tiny Prints that read, “Sugar, spice, all things nice – that’s what Baby Thompson is made of” for the tea and coffee. Side note: I’m also obsessing over their gorgeous Holiday cards. We’ve gotten a few in the mail that are Tiny Prints, and I love them!!

My amazing friend Amanda baked cupcakes that were at each place setting, surrounded by colorful sprinkles from Layer Cake Shop. Guests got to decorate them as they wanted, then take them home (because crêpes and cakes made for fully tummies!) in boxes, which had customized birthday stickers, also from Tiny Prints.

Meredith, the queen of creativity (hello invitation stylist!), helped me to blow up and stick all of the confetti-shaped balloons to the backdrop, which my wonderful mom sewed (Sasha DIYed the PVC pipe stand and Amanda sanded it down! Talk about a team effort!).

I am seriously so excited to meet sweet baby Thompson. Our oldest babes are already best friends and I know that she and Emi will follow in their siblings/mom’s footsteps. It was such a joyful shower, and I would love to re-live it all over again. She deserves all of the love and attention, as she is one of the most selfless people I know. February cannot come soon enough!

Calligraphy & Floral Arranging Workshop at Renovate – More Coming Soon!

Ailee_Petrovic_160226_L86A2462Two Thursdays ago (where has time gone?!?), I attended a calligraphy and floral arranging workshop at Renovate, a local design, decor, and gift store (which you have to go and visit). The calligraphy portion was taught by the talented Emily Reeves; the floral arranging, by the equally amazing Kristin of The Briar Rose. I had a great time, and although it was my third calligraphy class, I learned so much. It’s amazing how each calligrapher has so many tips of their own! And Kristin’s arrangements are gorgeous (sign me up for a subscription, please!) – she walked us through the basics of forming arrangements (plus, we got that gorgeous box vase!).

I was using Snapchat throughout the evening (AileePetrovic), and I received a lot of questions about whether or not they’ll host another workshop. Thankfully, there are others soon – on Saturday, April 28 and Saturday, April 30 from 10:30am until 1pm. You can sign up here! I highly recommend taking the class!

Nursery Color Scheme Trends For 2016

Today, I’m bringing you a guest post written by Cassandra of AFK, an upscale children’s furniture company, based in Orange County. They have furnished many high-end clients’ nurseries, such as Mariah Carey’s (which was gorgeous!). The decor is absolutely gorgeous, and I went googley-eyed over the photos that Cassandra sent for the post. I am not pregnant, but that doesn’t mean I can’t browse different nursery themes for the future. Cassandra’s post covers key color scheme trends for 2016, and I’m loving them all (namely ‘white on white’ and ‘neutral paired’). I hope you enjoy reading this post as much as I did!

Picking a color scheme for your nursery is one of the first steps in creating your dream nursery. This will help guide you when picking out nursery furniture to create a cohesive feel. Follow the post bellow for four amazing on trend color pairings for 2016.

White on White

Selected by Benjamin Moore as the color of the year, white is a complex yet subtle color. The interplay of whites and light creates nuance and subtle beauty. By choosing to pair this color with itself, your nursery will be transformed into a place of serenity.

Our 2015 Family Photos

AwakePhotography5119Remember how I was going to wait to share our family photos (taken by the absolutely incredible Paige Budde) until after our card was sent? Well, here they are… on November 4th. And I haven’t even given thought to our Christmas cards (although I’m eyeing a few Artifact Uprising ones that are ah-mazing). That, my sweet friends, is the embodiment of impatience.

But do not fear – I’ve saved three of my favorites that are top contenders for the card so that there will be SOME element of surprise when people receive theirs in the mail!

We took our photographs with Paige at 6:45am on Sunday… in the rain. Thankfully, we had already discussed taking them at the Menil Collection, which has a covered sidewalk. I’m also so grateful that Paige showed up with the gorgeous chair you’ll see below (she also owns The Foundry Rental Co.), which gave some extra flair given that we were limited to where we could shoot with the rain. When I saw this sneak peek, I was very excited. And then I saw the email in my inbox this morning and got teary eyed looking at all of the photos. I feel so incredibly blessed (I’m “so basic,” I know) to have these two in my life. Sasha is the best best-friend and husband I could ask for, and I didn’t know it was possible to love anyone like I love Isla.

Thank you, Paige, for capturing these special moments. It’s amazing to see how much she’s grown since our photos last year, and even since Isla’s first birthday photos. Please don’t retire from photography or move before 2037.

50 days until Christmas! I can’t wait!

“Mummy and Me” Halloween Party with Salata

Ailee_Petrovic_151028_4B3A1973

On Wednesday, Isla and I headed to a ‘Mummy and Me’ Halloween party that our sweet friends, Destiny and Truman, were hosting in their new gorgeous house.

Salata kindly catered the party, which was such a blessing. It was so easy – we chose the Salata Bar, which came with lettuce, 12 toppings, three dressings (with the choice of 10), protein (you choose from four chicken, four seafood and three vegan options!), bread, croutons and pita chips. I swung by the store on the way to the party, and they had everything bagged and ready to go. It couldn’t have been more simple!

I absolutely love Salata (as do the other ladies who were at the party), and it was like having the entire restaurant experience at your house. The new online ordering platform (developed in-house by Salata!) makes catering orders easily customizable with the click of a button. Guests can quickly select their orders through the visual customization options and schedule on-time order deliveries. Other new offerings include new premium salad recipes, developed through a Salata employee recipe contest. Four of the winning recipes are now on the menu – Sweet & Savory, Green Goodness, Spicy Thai Crunch and Keen Wah Kale, with superfoods quinoa and kale. The combinations are available in the salad bowl, wrap tray and boxed lunch catering options. I highly recommend you order from Salata if you’re hosting a party and need to feed a lot of hungry mouths – they’ll love you for it!

Now onto the party – Destiny is seriously the hostess with the mostess. Every single detail was perfect! Her invitations were from Saturday and Ninth, and a lot of the decor was from Sweet Katy Lane. They only recently moved into their house, yet she opened up her doors for us amidst getting her kitchen cabinets finished (super mom!). It is already decorated so well – house envy!

So, are you guys ready for Halloween tomorrow? Are you going trick or treating or to any fun parties? Stay safe!
