The Carroll Family Photo Session

Last weekend, I photographed one of Isla’s friend’s family, and these four kiddos are so darn beautiful – I still can’t get over it! Will impressed me during the session with his ability to capture multiple tiny little frogs – you can see his closed fist in a few of the photos. Jake, the youngest Carroll kid, is at the perfect let-me-run-in-the-opposite-direction age, which actually makes for fun on-the-go pictures. He loved being swung in the air by his mom and big sister, Kennedy. One of my favorite photos is the one where Jake’s big siblings are all tickling his cute little belly! Catherine was a little dancing queen, and Will was all smiles (probably due to the aforementioned frogs!). I absolutely loved capturing this sweet family at this stage of their lives!

The Talbert Family Photo Session

This morning, I met the Talbert family for a portrait session at The Arboretum, which is a recently revamped public park in Houston. The weather was beautiful (considering it is June in Texas!), which is a game-changer, but I’m convinced not even scorching hot, humid temperatures would have affected this family of six! All four kids were unbelievably well-behaved, and I’ve been meaning to post some family sessions on the blog for ages now (will hopefully catch up on recent ones too soon!) – this family was a good one to start with.

Almost two weeks ago, I started a business Pinterest account – I would love if you followed me here! One of my main motivators to sharing more family portrait photos on my blog is for the purpose of pinning more regularly on my new account.

I have a few more sessions in the next three weeks that I’m so excited about. It may be hot, but I love the bright summer sunshine in these photos! Also, can we talk about what a little ham sweet Evy is? Her three older brothers are truly wrapped around her tiny little finger.

Happy Sixth Birthday, Isla Milijana!

On June 4, 2014, just a mere 13 minutes into Isla’s due date – my water broke, beginning her 18 hours of labor. At 6:30pm, she was laying in my arms – I will never forget that moment. It is crazy to me that her birth was six years ago! But given that Isla often seems to be six going on sixteen, it feels appropriate that she is now “old enough to need both hands for my age!”

We celebrated her fifth birthday in Colorado last year, and she has been begging for a party in Houston ever since. We had been planning a mermaid pool party until it became clear in the past few weeks that even though we are now in June, a birthday party wasn’t the best decision for us. Alas, we are celebrating with both sides of the family (mine, at lunch; Sasha’s, dinner) and her best friend, Phoenix, is coming over to swim. In the evening, we’re having a drive-by front yard party! I know it’ll be a day to remember.

100 Summer Activities for Young Kids

The girls have been on summer break for a week now, and I’ve already heard the words, “I’m bored!” countless times. I decided I was going to type up a list of all the fun activities we could do, then print it out so we can fight any chance of boredom. Once I got started on the list, it kept growing and growing. Now I’m excited about the months ahead (mixed in with some sleepovers at their grandparents too, of course! Ha!). I’ve listed 72 activities below that are location-neutral, then included 28 that are Houston-specific. Of course, given the Coronavirus pandemic, you’ll want to check to see if/when those places are open.

Creating a Photo Book with Your Children’s Art

The girls’ last week of school just ended, and mid-way through the week, we received their beautiful art folders. I loved going through each piece with Isla and Emi – they were so proud of what they had created! At the beginning of the year, I downloaded the Artkive app and had planned to upload photos of the girls’ art throughout the year – forgetting that most art comes home at the end. Instead of uploading to the app (which is still a great idea!), I decided to make Artifact Uprising books to fit in with the other photo books I make throughout the year. I absolutely love their quality!
