Week 4 in Durango

We have almost been in Durango for a month, and time is literally flying by, which is giving me anxiety. I am not ready to return to Houston, although I would give anything to hug my friends and family. In the past week, we have seen multiple deer lingering in our yard and our neighbors, taken (almost) daily walks to the local handcrafted ice cream shop – Cream Bean Berry, gone on 2-mi. morning walks with the beautiful crisp air, finished Photo 101, started Floral Arranging 101, and learning so much in Illustrator 101. We also visited Sutcliffe Vineyards, ate at Carver’s Brewery (dying over their veggie burger), and  Sasha’s mom, her friend, my sister, and her boyfriend all visited. It was a busy week, but we enjoyed every second of it. One of my best friends arrives next week with her baby, Lillian, who was born 26 days after Isla. I cannot wait!

In My Hospital Bag

I have read no less than 20 lists of what to bring in one’s hospital bag – some are extensive, others are more minimal. I tend to overpack, so I’m probably in the former category (especially with all of Isla’s outfits – whoops). Whenever I travel, I pack outfits into gallon size Ziploc bags – helps keep me organized! So naturally, Isla has 12 outfits organized in baggies.

DSC_0960Ready to go!

It’s hard as a first-time mom to know what to pack, so it’s helpful to read others’ suggestions on what to pack when heading into delivery!

Some of my favorite lists:

Hook Thread and TinkerSimply Sadie Jane, and Workman Family

So, what’s in my bag? And Isla’s? And Sasha’s? Well, some things are still ‘to-be-packed-when-contractions-start,’ but the lists are as follows:

My Hospital Bag

1 old throw-away robe

2 pairs of pajamas (one Target nightie and one cute pair from Anthro, which I will likely regret?)

6 pairs of Hanes full-coverage underwear

2 Bravado nursing bras

1 pair of Lululemon Still Pants (per Mara’s suggestion!)

1 Motherhood nursing tank

1 pair of Old Navy yoga shorts

1 pair of Gap maternity leggings

1 Pickwick and Weller t-shirt (so comfy)

1 Loft maternity t-shirt

3 pairs of old socks

Slippers

Any experienced mothers out there with suggestions on things to remove or add? I have two weeks left (convinced it’ll be more like three), so plenty of time to order additional items or repack! It is helpful to bring your own pump to the hospital with you? Any and all advice is welcome.

The Golden Nursery: Ready for Isla

Less than three weeks away from our due date now, and I am so anxious to meet little miss Isla. We had an ultrasound on Monday, and she is measuring 6 pounds 7 ounces – right on track (44th percentile). As we get nearer to June 4, we’re finalizing all baby details – making sure we have enough diapers, swaddle blankets, bottles, etc. for her arrival. The hospital bags (hers, mine) are packed and in the car – just in case! I’ll do a post on what’s inside soon. I have definitely overpacked her clothing – she has about 10 outfit choices… because I’m indecisive. This J. Crew onesie may be the winner, but we’ll see. The room is 99% complete. The only thing I’m still on the fence about is wall color/paper… Rifle Paper Co. will launch their wallpaper collection with Hygge and West next Monday. If something fits the room, I’ll be sold.

My Maternity Style

hatchAs soon as I found out I was pregnant, I frantically started searching online for maternity clothes and pregnancy fashion blogs. I had no clue where to start! Shortly after I found out, J. Crew launched their line of maternity pants (still anxiously awaiting more selections!), and then found myself buying tons of blouses from Loft’s maternity line (love these so much). I officially retired my old jeans three weeks ago, and am hanging onto my J. Crew Cafe Capris for dear life (very little time left in those!). This has meant that I’ve been on the market for some fashionable work pants – which I found at J. Crew and Asos. I bought two pairs of J. Crew’s J. Crew’s non-materity draped drawstring pants, which work well for my growing waistline, as well as two pairs of their maternity Minnie Pants. I also really like J. Crew’s white matchstick denim pants, but love my Hudson maternity jeans the most! These Asos floral camo pants could not be more comfortable – match them with a black blouse and they work for going out for dinner or going to the office.

As for dresses, I’ve been looking for empire waistlines or tunics and buying 2 to 3 sizes up to be cautious. Anthropologie has a great selection – I love this tan and coral tunic with my white matchstick denim.

Without a doubt, my favorite maternity line is Hatch Collection. After looking at their stuff non-stop for the last few weeks, I finally caved and bought this dress (in Ponte) and these shorts. I want to buy everything.

J. Crew, Loft, Asos, TopShop, H&M, Old Navy, Gap, Rachel Pally, Hatch Collection – know of any other fashionable maternity lines? Always looking for some new options, although I only have 12 weeks left! Here’s to hoping they fly by.

Our Baby Girl

DSC_0226

Sasha and I made a big announcement on Instagram yesterday – we’re having a baby girl! She is due on June 4, 2014. I’m 4 months and 2 days along now, and I feel good – I’m definitely glad to be through with the first trimester. All I can think about is baby clothes shopping and decorating the nursery. I’ve been scouring Land of Nod, Baby & Child, Hayneedle, and Pottery Barn Kids for cribs and furniture and being inspired by Taylor Sterling of The Glitter Guide (nursery posted here).

Her little shoes are Freshly Picked Moccasins – the first article of clothing I bought!
