Happy Valentine’s Day!

Sasha opened his little Valentine’s treats this morning, and we’re going out for dinner tonight – he won’t tell me where though! The suspense is killing me.

For some Valentine’s inspiration and to brighten your day, go to Style Me Pretty to see their gorgeous Love Notes shoot! None of the cards are quite as pretty as the beautiful one that my best friend, McKenzie, sent me!

Sasha’s little surprise: Customized M&Ms (ASPB Team – our family nickname due to us having the same initials ASP and our nickname for the dog – PB, Volim Te Puno – I love you lots in Serbian, and two pictures of us and Belle), banana Crave cupcake, personalized collar stays, ‘You Make My Heart Skip a Beet’ card, two Chocolove bars (have you tried these? You must), and of course, a single rose (ha, I had to).

Little Baby Isla

DSC_0254

We finally decided on both the first and middle name for our little baby girl! I was born in Scotland, and Sasha’s parents are both from Serbia, so we narrowed our searches down to baby names from both those cultures. We had about six names (three Scottish, three Serbian), then tested them out for awhile and decided upon ‘Isla’ – pronounced eye-la. It’s a Scottish name, so we chose Milijana (pronounced Milly-ana) for a middle name, which is Sasha’s only surviving grandma’s first name. Not an easy name – Isla Milijana Petrovic – but neither of our names were, and we liked it! I am a sucker for a good personalized print, so I ordered this one and this one from Minted (along with this sassy print). I could have ordered 1000 more prints. I love Minted so much.

Favorite Photos of the Week

Photography blogs are my absolute favorite – I could literally stare at beautifully captured moments all day long. This week was awfully busy at work (sleep deprived!), but I managed to fit in 30 minutes of blog scouring late last night. The pictures below are my favorite photos for this week (although some were posted more than a week ago!). Which is your favorite?

Calligraphy Filled Fiesta

I love a good fiesta, especially the one featured on Blue Eye Brown Eye here. Lauren designed the paper for this spectacularly colored wedding. I think that the flowers, paper, and desserts all complement each other perfectly. It’s fantastic. I am signed up for a calligraphy class led by Lauren (owner of Blue Eye Brown Eye) in March – I’m so excited. It’s a few days after the Meant to Be Calligraphy workshop I’ll be attending in Washington, DC with my mom. I can’t wait to learn from these two experts!

Urban Harvest Farmer’s Market

urbanharvestfarmersmarket

On Satuday, I headed to the Urban Harvest Farmer’s Market (Eastside location) – something I’ve been meaning to do for ages and had never gotten around to. One thing’s for sure – I’ve been missing out. Enticing aromas welcome you when walking towards the long two rows of tents selling everything from brightly colored vegetables to fresh flowers, organic beef and vegan treats. I went with Sasha’s aunt, Zlata, who enjoys markets as much as I do. We left with a full (recyclable, of course) bag, stuffed with basil, portobello mushrooms, peppers, flowers (top left picture), limes, and last (but definitely not least) vegan pumpkin pie! I was giddy with excitement when I saw Sinfull Bakery‘s stand (my favorite), as I’ve been trying various vegan pumpkin recipes to little success, and wanted something tried-and-proven on that particular morning. Sasha scarfed it down when we got home and gave it two-thumbs up, which means a lot coming from a carnivore who eats eggs but doesn’t like desserts.

My favorite stands were:

Sinfull Bakery – as mentioned above, the vegan treats (and samples) are so tasty
Pat Greer’s Kitchen – I was handed a vegan sauteed veggie taster and it was heaven-in-my-mouth (need to head to her restaurant!)
Billabong Fresh Flower Farm – where I got my gorgeous flower arrangement
Utility Research Garden – the juiciest limes I’ve ever tasted
Shade/Canopy – I love the restaurants, so naturally loved the booth
Knopp Branch Farm – some of the best portobello mushrooms we’ve ever eaten
Revival Market – a little sneak peek before I headed there for lunch with friends on Saturday

My love for farmer’s markets dates back to my time in Austin at The University of Texas – I wrote an article for the UT newspaper, which was linked to here.

Have you been to your local farmer’s market?
