2016 Gift Guide for the Fashion-Forward Guy

Today, I’ve asked one of my best friends, Amanda, to share a gift guide that she created! Amanda’s husband, Scott, is definitely a fashion-forward guy – he always looks very dapper (a perfect match for his very stylish wife!). You may remember Amanda and Scott from their wedding last year – I posted about it here and their shower here. Amanda is going to be starting a blog soon, and I cannot wait to share details about it.

So, without further adieu, here are some suggestions that Amanda (and Scott!) put together to help you shop for the fashion-forward guy in your life!

#GIRLBOSS: Ryann of nineOnine creative

GirlBoss_Ryann_nine0nine_creativeI first met Ryann at a Cocktails for Creatives AIGA event at Julep in June, and I knew immediately that we would become friends. As a fellow paper lover, I have a sincere admiration for Ryann’s work as a stationery and graphic designer. She is the owner of nine0nine creative, which she explains the meaning of below in her interview.

I took head shots and product photographs for Ryann two weeks ago (fighting Mother Nature the best we could!) at Meredith’s house, and we had so many good laughs. Her stationery sets are seriously so gorgeous – I love her work, and I’m excited to introduce her as my most recent #GIRLBOSS (read past interviews here).

Haute Hippie Days of Summer

HauteHippieDaysOn Monday, a few of my good friends and fellow “Houston creatives” got together for a hippie styled shoot, and I had so much fun despite the 100-degree Houston weather. Sasha’s youngest cousin (and now mine too!), Kristina, was the inspiration for the entire shoot. Not only is she stunning, she is the sweetest person ever, and I love her boho style. I’ve been dying to photograph her pretty face for ages, and decided that we could pull together something really fun with flower-power, boho vibes.

Immediately, I thought of my friend, Britt, who owns Butter, to give Kristina the hippie makeup and hair. For florals and styling, I knew that Meredith of Cake & Confetti would knock it out of the park (and she did, obviously!). I adore the floral crown, but also the incredible arrangements – they’re just as I had imagined. Joy (mentioned in the #GIRLBOSS series here) gave us Priya jewelry, which matched the theme perfectly. We got most of the furniture pieces from The Foundry (new rental business in Houston – love them!), and I asked Jenny of A Fine Florish to write one of my favorite phrases on a fringed purse I found at Nordstrom.

We originally found a few hippie dresses online (featured below), which I absolutely loved; however, Kristina found “the one” while shopping in Fayetteville, where she goes to school. It is the most gorgeous dress, and I’m so pleased she discovered it. She looked like a goddess!

I am so excited about how everything turned out. We found a spot in Memorial Park, got to work and created a little hippie paradise. I had the hardest time narrowing down the photos – I wanted to share them all! So although there are about 40 photos below, know that I did exclude hundreds (ha!). A huge thank you to everyone to helped pull this shoot off! I love y’all.

Isla’s First Christmas with Carter’s: Family Photos (Giveaway)

My absolute favorite time of the year is the holiday season. Halloween gives way to Thanksgiving, which means Christmas is right around the corner. I get giddy when lights start to be strung on trees in the neighborhood and when wreaths and ornaments begin to adorn shops across the city. There is so much joy in this season, and I am incredibly excited for Isla to celebrate her first Christmas.

We have many family traditions associated with Christmas, and this week, I’m going to share all of them, including our annual family photo, Christmas Eve candlelight church service, opening stockings in our PJs on Christmas morning, getting dressed up to open presents under the tree, and then lounging around after a festive lunch and playing with our gifts.

As I mentioned here, my family has taken family photos for the last 18 years (ever since we moved to Texas from Scotland). We take them every November to use for our annual Christmas card, as well as to be framed around the house. I knew that as soon as Sasha and I had babies, we would keep the tradition alive as well. We were lucky enough to have our pictures taken by the very talented Paige Budde of Awake Photography.  I am so pleased with how they turned out and highly recommend her to anyone living in Texas (she’s based in Houston, too!).

One of the most important decisions when it comes to family photos is everyone’s outfits. For this year’s photos, I chose a red French Connection dress and Sasha wore a J. Crew button-down and khakis. After picking our outfits, Isla was next. Thankfully, Carter’s offers classic styles and coordinated looks that are perfect for family photos, so I had the best selection of pretty dresses to choose from in their Holiday Collection (think lots of bright plaids and colorful patterns). I had the hardest time picking just one, but knew that too many outfit changes would result in a not-so-happy Isla. I decided on the classic Rosette and Lace dress in ivory, as it was a neutral color which was easy for Sasha and I to complement with our outfit choices. Since it was chilly outside, I put on these sweet Glitter Bow Tights and kept her feet warm in little sparkly gold shoes. Both Isla and I wore matching floral crowns by the very talented Jess Hamilton.

Carter’s has a ton of great options for siblings too – both their girl and boy selections are adorable. My favorite choices for little boy’s outfits are the Poplin Plaid Bodysuit with Jeans and the Jersey Henley Tee with Twill Pants.

In celebration of Isla’s first Christmas, I’m partnering with Carter’s to give one lucky individual a $100 Carter’s gift card, as well as one of the outfits (boy or girl) featured during the week-long series. Enter the giveaway below (so many entry options) to win!

Dream Master Bathroom

Alas, the final post in the Dream Home series (for now, at least!). You’ve seen inspiration for our future (as in… way future) master bedroom and closethome office, laundry room, living room, kitchen and playroom. One of the rooms that I love spending time in the most is our master bathroom – which is attached to our closet. We designed it exactly like the inspiration I posted years ago here.

I get more and more anxious to build our dream home as the weeks go by, which is not helped by our nightly walks around our neighborhood, where there are at least ten tear-down and rebuild projects within a 1-mile radius. We even got a home tour by an owner by being extra creepy on Sunday – snooping sometimes pays off!

In the meantime, I’ll just keep searching for inspiration for our dream master bathroom. Some of my requirements (or perhaps just nice-to-haves) include:

  • Large custom mirrors
  • Natural lighting (so important when putting on makeup)
  • Farmhouse sinks
  • Wainscoting on the cabinets (we have this and I love the detail!)
  • Like most of the other ‘dream’ rooms, a lovely chandelier
  • Lots of cabinets – with built-in storage for cosmetics (like this)
  • Calcutta gold marble or white quartz countertops
  • Stand-alone bathtub (would love a claw foot or sleek modern one!)
  • Little coffee station – I love this idea so much!
  • Flowers or greenery
  • Open shelves for towels and frames/candles

What does your dream master bathroom look like?
