My Maternity Style

hatchAs soon as I found out I was pregnant, I frantically started searching online for maternity clothes and pregnancy fashion blogs. I had no clue where to start! Shortly after I found out, J. Crew launched their line of maternity pants (still anxiously awaiting more selections!), and then found myself buying tons of blouses from Loft’s maternity line (love these so much). I officially retired my old jeans three weeks ago, and am hanging onto my J. Crew Cafe Capris for dear life (very little time left in those!). This has meant that I’ve been on the market for some fashionable work pants – which I found at J. Crew and Asos. I bought two pairs of J. Crew’s J. Crew’s non-materity draped drawstring pants, which work well for my growing waistline, as well as two pairs of their maternity Minnie Pants. I also really like J. Crew’s white matchstick denim pants, but love my Hudson maternity jeans the most! These Asos floral camo pants could not be more comfortable – match them with a black blouse and they work for going out for dinner or going to the office.

As for dresses, I’ve been looking for empire waistlines or tunics and buying 2 to 3 sizes up to be cautious. Anthropologie has a great selection – I love this tan and coral tunic with my white matchstick denim.

Without a doubt, my favorite maternity line is Hatch Collection. After looking at their stuff non-stop for the last few weeks, I finally caved and bought this dress (in Ponte) and these shorts. I want to buy everything.

J. Crew, Loft, Asos, TopShop, H&M, Old Navy, Gap, Rachel Pally, Hatch Collection – know of any other fashionable maternity lines? Always looking for some new options, although I only have 12 weeks left! Here’s to hoping they fly by.

Some of my favorite recent purchases featured below – links at the bottom!

The Golden Nursery Progress

Isla’s room is making progress, but there is still a ton of work to be done! I feel like this is a never-ending project, but I only have 15 more weeks left. We’ve bought or ordered most of the furniture, but are still waiting on the glider and ottoman, curtains, two lamps (here and here), baby mobile, and a ton of prints/frames for our bare walls. I need to pick a wall color (or wall paper!), create a gallery wall, and fill these massive bookshelves with books and baby stuff. The baby registry is almost complete though, thanks to help from Annie Dean’s list and other new mom friends of mine. I have to remind myself not to keep buying things or there won’t be anything left for my upcoming showers!

I’m sharing a few pictures of the nursery (in progress!). The ENTIRE room was once covered with pictures of the items taped to the floors and walls – as more and more items come in, more and more paper comes down! I cannot wait until June 4.

Gold Striped Walls

I love interior design, which you’ll know if you’ve been following along for awhile now. I am currently planning a nursery for our baby girl who will be born on June 4. We recently ordered our crib (Babyletto Mercer in all white) and bought the rug for the room (Pottery Barn Henley Rug in Ivory), so all that’s left is the rocking chair and ottoman. And, of course, the wall color. This is the biggest decision and I am so torn. I go back and forth between Rifle Paper Co. wall paper dreams, solid cream, gold wall paper, or gold and white painted stripes. I am very, very inspired by this last option, but I’m not sure this is the option we’ll go with. I’m sharing some of my favorite gold striped walls – what do you think? Appropriate for a baby room or too old? My main concern is having lots of frames hanging against the stripes and it seeming off balanced. Decisions, decisions!

In Full Bloom Baby Shower

I absolutely adore this ‘In Full Bloom’ baby shower from Hostess with the Mostest! It is completely over the top, but was planned by event planners (Double Take Event Styling), so what do you expect? The little pink and gold French touches are perfect, as are the florals, calligraphy and crafts – creating baby headbands? Too cute.french-garden-baby-shower

Creating a Baby Registry

The fact that I found the act of creating a wedding registry difficult is now laughable, as I stare choosing baby essentials in the eyes. It’s daunting, as you literally have no idea what you will need. If you read one book, it’s necessary to have X, Y, and Z, but according to another book, those items are all frivolous. As a minimalist (I seriously hate clutter), I will always lean towards the side of too little rather than too much. When I found NYC blogger Annie Dean’s “The Baby Essentials” post, I swooned. It’s exactly what I had been looking for. A concise list that states everything I do and do not need for Baby Petrovic. It’s an excellent read for all expecting mothers, and her recommended list of things to buy is extremely helpful. I know for a fact I will be referencing this while building our baby registry.
