2016 Gift Guide for the Decorator

Happy Thanksgiving Eve! I’m so excited to head to my parents house tomorrow morning and spend the day with everyone (most importantly, my little sister’s new puppy, Colt). I hope you have fun Thanksgiving plans too.

Today’s gift guide is aimed at the person in your life who loves interior design and decorating. Whether it’s this beautiful gold bar cart (currently $40 off!), this unique rose gold lamp (currently $15 off!), or this Howdy door mat, anyone who enjoys sprucing up spaces would be thrilled to receive those gifts.

#GIRLBOSS: Jamie of Jamie Sawicki Art & Interiors

GIRLBOSSJamieIf you’ve been following along for awhile, you’ll know I love contemporary art (see post here with favorite artists). So when I first saw Jamie Sawicki’s artwork, I seriously swooned. It totally embodies everything I love about art. We re-connected recently via email (she’s my high school friend April’s mom!), and then she came over to our house two weeks ago to have some of her pieces photographed and to discuss a fun styling project. I was so excited when she agreed to be a part of my #GIRLBOSS series!

Jamie is a ball of happy energy. Seriously! I love her. And not to mention her talent! We unloaded eight paintings from her car, and each one was like: “Ohh, love that one. It’s my favorite.” “Wait, no, that one is.” “Never mind, that one.” You’ll see what I’m talking about as you scroll down. Also, she doesn’t just do paintings – she’s an interior designer as well (which you’ll see in the next post we do together!).

Our Master Bedroom Redesign

Ailee Petrovic Master Bedroom Ethan Allen Modern White Clean Contemporary Pop Color

Do you remember way back in January when I posted about my interior design process? I also included a rendering of my vision for our master bedroom redesign, which is pretty darn close to the final product (it only took 9.5 long months to come to fruition!). We recently got the house repainted, and I’m really glad we chose Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore. It’s as close to white as Sasha would let me go! Our room is pretty spacious (perhaps just given that our house is not big!), so last year, we decided to forego the office to make it a playroom and move my desk into our bedroom. I love working in here now that the redesign is complete. It feels calm and airy, with bright pops of color from our pillows, bookshelves and art.

Decorist Makeover: Your Opinion Wanted

DecoristIn the spring, I had a conversation with a good friend about how the interior design industry has changed recently given the popularity of sites like Houzz and Pinterest. What used to be an intimate face-to-face process has become something that can now take place virtually. Interior designers do not need to walk into your house in order to style a room, they can do it all remotely, and I love this.

Just days after having this discussion, Decorist reached out asking to do a collaboration. I went to their site and was immediately sold. I spent ages and ages looking through the design inspiration, and learning about how the design process works.

The Most Beautiful Wall Paper Collection

It’s time to redo the entire house. Okay, so there’s no way Sasha would buy that, given that we freshly painted every room 12 months ago, but the Rifle Paper Co. wall paper collection for Hygge & West just launched, and I’m utterly obsessed. I truly thought about how each print would fit in one room or another in The Manor – I love the safari print for Isla’s room? Maybe an accent wall? And we could totally redo one of the bathrooms with the pineapples! How fun is that print? And I need the peonies in our laundry room. What do you think of the collection?
