Happy First Birthday, Hou!

houston pet photographer texas ailee petrovic dog first birthday I have found a new niche of photography that I adore: pets. Talk about an easy model! These furry animals don’t have any say into how they look in the photos, which is fine, as they normally look perfect. Dogs will never say: “That’s a beautiful backdrop, with great lighting and focus, but my hair looks funny when it’s tucked behind my ear.” Albeit, they are a tad more difficult to control, but still easier than a 10 month old crawler!

When my friend, Kristen, asked me to take photos for her pup’s first birthday, I jumped at the opportunity. Houston is seriously adorable – let’s talk about that bow tie, party hat, and his cake shots! Could he be more perfect?

Houston’s first birthday is today. We’re all going to be in New Orleans, celebrating from afar (but really celebrating our friend Amanda, who is getting married!).

Isla’s Newborn Photos by Taylor Lord

When the doorbell rang yesterday, and Sasha came into the living room with a package, I freaked out. Isla’s newborn photos had arrived from Taylor Lord. We opened them, read Taylor’s sweet letter and immediately started looking at each photo, one by one. I love them so much. Taylor captured our happiness and Isla’s sweetness perfectly. I am absolutely terrible at editing down photos, so pardon the large number of pictures in this post, but I had to share my favorites. I love this little girl so much, and I am so happy that the Lord blessed Taylor with such an incredible talent. View Taylor’s website here and her blog here. View details about Isla’s nursery here.

PS We took these over a month ago – Isla is so much bigger by now! It’s crazy how fast they grow.

Newborn Photos by Taylor Lord

It has been a back-and-forth conversation for the last few months – to do maternity pictures or not? Eventually, Sasha and I landed on doing newborn pictures vs. maternity, for a variety of reasons – namely because if we’re going to pay for photos, I want Isla to be in them as opposed to being inside my tummy! We are going to use one of my favorite photographers, Taylor Lord, for the shoot. I could look at her blog all day long. She posted these adorable newborn photos almost a year ago – I am obsessed. First, baby Henry is too cute, and second, how gorgeous is their house?? I’m anxious to meet (and hug!) Isla after looking at these again. 10.5 weeks left!

Shapshots of 2013

For the past four years, I’ve made an annual Shutterfly book that covered all travel and adventures for the year. I just finished my 2013 book yesterday, and it was extremely tough to keep it at 111 pages! I literally had to delete 6 pages in order to complete it. What an amazing year! We went to SF/Napa three times (more pictures here), Durango, Dunton Hot Springs, Boston, New York City, Miami, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Minneapolis, and Bali. We remodeled a house that became our home, got married and are now expecting a baby girl in 2014. I’m almost sure that fits the definition for ‘whirlwind.’

Annual Christmas Card Photos

Since our family moved to the States in 1997, we have taken Semple family pictures every single year. I love this tradition, and I’ll make sure that my own family continues it. I had the honor of being asked to take our good friends’ Christmas photo – I was so thrilled. We took the pictures in the Houston Arboretum at Memorial Park (I am obsessed!). I took about 400 and narrowed it down – my favorites are below. Isn’t “Mister P” precious? He’s 15 months old now – see his 6 month photos that I took here and him at the hospital here. I love this family.
