Pretty Little Things

Bryan texted me last night and said, “The house is starting to look like a home.” It was a small statement, but the sentiment was huge. I feel the same way! All of the little touches are coming together and although Sasha and I have agreed not to nail anything into the walls for another few weeks (I’m beginning to cave), we have ordered a few prints and I’m leaning them on the walls for now. I move out of my apartment in two weeks (seriously depressed – I’ve absolutely had the best year of my life living with McKenzie), and back into my parents – with the exception of my furniture, which will go into The Manor. A busy few weeks ahead! I’ll keep you all posted as always.

The Manor: Almost There

If you’ve been reading for the past few months, you are well aware of the renovation of our new home, nicknamed “The Manor” (related to the street name). Sasha surprised me with the house as part of his proposal (read the story here), and we’ve been doing major renovations since early November (think walls being added, moved, etc.): Demolition post, Progress post, Further Progress post, A Lick of Paint post. While we still have work to do – i.e. moving the furniture from my apartment into the house, buying blinds, yard work, buying accessories for the two guest rooms – it’s almost there. I see the finish line! Below are a ton of pictures – I’m dying for the other Maxwell couch to arrive! I’m in love.

Rustic Chic Dining

Sasha and I don’t want to buy too many big furniture items before The Manor is ready, because we have plenty of time to decorate and want everything to piece together perfectly. We’ve bought the Maxwell couches and know which entryway and coffee tables we’ll buy (see here), so the last big purchase we’ll get for the open living/dining room space is the table and chairs. We wanted to veer away from a formal table and were leaning towards a more rustic chic style. After doing lots of browsing, we found the winner: the Emmerson Dining Table and Bench from West Elm. For the side opposite from the bench and for the head seats, we’ll have the Hudson Camelback Upholstered Side Chair from Restoration Hardware (my obsession). Cannot wait to see it all in place so that we can start buying the little decorative pieces! What does your ideal dining area look like?

Our First Couches // Restoration Loving

I’ve got to admit it: I’m slightly obsessed with Restoration Hardware. They built one within the past two years at the nearby Highland Village in Houston (see picture below), and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I could buy everything in the entire store, and on Tuesday, I made my first step towards that by buying two Maxwell couches for The Manor. We got the three-over-three 9-ft couch and the regular 6-ft couch (both the 46-in luxe depth) in the Italian Brompton Cocoa. They won’t be delivered until March, which is good timing for when the wood floors will be in and the walls painted. I’m so excited!maxwell

Pieces of the Entryway

As blogged about here, I’ve been racking my brain about how to decorate our entryway. After going to Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Anthropologie, and Restoration Hardware recently, we’ve picked out some of the furniture. We are going to do a bold patterned rug in the adjoining living room, so we chose a solid color runner (5) to go under our Bluestone Console Table (4). We loved the Nailhead Chair (3) collection at Restoration, so will have one beside the table. We bought a big map print (1) on Etsy (ours is without the “Explore”) that we will mount in a thick black frame and hang over the table. There will be lots of coffee table books (see favorites below), an accent lamp (2) from Anthropologie, and many other frames and candles that we already own. The wall color will be “Glass of Milk” from the Martha Stewart Collection. It’s all coming together – slowly but surely. We’ve picked out some items for the living room, but only decided yesterday to mount the TV on top of the fireplace. One step at a time!
