We’re in the final stretch of my pregnancy now, with less than 9 days until we get to meet baby Emilia (or Emi, as we always call her). Although I started working on her nursery months ago (I was so anxious for a new decorating project!), I only put the finishing touch on the room this past Monday. I’m excited to share the photos on the blog today!
Do you remember way back in January when I posted about my interior design process? I also included a rendering of my vision for our master bedroom redesign, which is pretty darn close to the final product (it only took 9.5 long months to come to fruition!). We recently got the house repainted, and I’m really glad we chose Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore. It’s as close to white as Sasha would let me go! Our room is pretty spacious (perhaps just given that our house is not big!), so last year, we decided to forego the office to make it a playroom and move my desk into our bedroom. I love working in here now that the redesign is complete. It feels calm and airy, with bright pops of color from our pillows, bookshelves and art.
You know how there are some people in life who are just quintessentially cool? Like, whatever they do, you kind of want to do, too? Well, for me, that’s Nina. Sasha has known her since they were little, as Nina’s parents also immigrated to the US from Serbia. Coincidentally, she married one of Sasha’s fraternity brothers, who is genuinely the sweetest – and a pretty impressive entrepreneur too (ahem, see house below). Mike and Nina moved into their custom built home (by Renaissance Builders) earlier this year, and I’ve been lusting over it ever since. The white paneled wood walls, large windows (I’d kill for that much natural light in our house!), gorgeous modern (warm and comfy!) furniture, dark wood ceilings, massive closets, fun wallpaper… I could go on and on.
When I asked Nina if I could feature their house on Snapshots & My Thoughts, she kindly and enthusiastically agreed. They opened up their house for me to photograph the inside and although Mother Nature was against us, I was around again to take outdoor shots.
I hope you love the house as much as I do (cue me now pinning everything to my Dream House boards on Pinterest). Nina sweetly sourced most of the items featured in these photos (it’s a big house, and I had a hard time narrowing down pictures, but there are rooms and pieces not shown!). In the spring, I had a conversation with a good friend about how the interior design industry has changed recently given the popularity of sites like Houzz and Pinterest. What used to be an intimate face-to-face process has become something that can now take place virtually. Interior designers do not need to walk into your house in order to style a room, they can do it all remotely, and I love this.
Just days after having this discussion, Decorist reached out asking to do a collaboration. I went to their site and was immediately sold. I spent ages and ages looking through the design inspiration, and learning about how the design process works.
This past week has had very high highs and very low lows. The Petrovic household got hit by a stomach bug that seems to be making its way around Houston, which was less than fun. Sasha, unfortunately, was in Austin for a workshop (and sick, not fun), so my mom spent most of the week at our house.
We celebrated Isla’s 6-month-iversary on Thursday, December 4. She is getting so much bigger, and she is a very big wiggler now. She loves going on runs with me in the morning, grabbing Belle’s tail, playing peek-a-boo, crawling, bath time, throwing her toys off the highchair, licking everything, mirrors, eating her hair bows, breastmilk and only that, being held by Mum and Tata, being read to at night, building blocks, doing the downward facing dog position, and will now stand while supported until she reaches for something else and tumbles (see photos below). She doesn’t like her crib at least once a day (other naps, she’s fine), solids (just disinterested), getting put into the car seat, randomly getting her diaper changed (but most time, she’s fine), and being hungry (she’s like her parents). She is a bundle of joy, and we love her so much. She still can be fussy from time to time, but her temperament is normally happy. She still wakes up around 3am to eat, but slept from 6pm (bedtime) to 6:30am this week… yet to be repeated! Once she is eating better, we may have to do CIO to get rid of the night feed. I am not excited about this.
